Superior Lodge sits right in the middle of it, a luxurious lodge in Knighton, Shropshire, tucked into genuinely peaceful surroundings. Wi-Fi is available for anyone who can’t quite switch off, though most guests find they don’t need it for long.

Wi-Fi is available for anyone who can’t quite switch off, though most guests find they don’t need it for long.

The open plan living and kitchen area gives the lodge a real sense of space, while the traditional log burner does the rest of the work once the evening turns cool. Black Hall Farm itself is a family run business offering luxurious self-catering accommodation across the estate, and Superior Lodge is one of its standout properties, with a strong list of communal facilities and plenty to explore nearby.

Comfort and style, combined

The living area is set up for a proper night in: two fabric sofas seating six, a coffee table, and a 40″ flatscreen TV with Freesat, DVD player and CD player. A high chair and cot are provided for younger guests.

The dining area seats six at a proper table, and the kitchen is fully equipped for a week’s worth of cooking, an electric double oven, hob, grill, fridge freezer, microwave, dishwasher and washing machine, along with all the everyday essentials: toaster, kettle, iron and ironing board.

Three bedrooms are split across two levels. On the ground floor, the master bedroom and twin bedroom both come with bedside tables and lamps, a mirror and a wardrobe, with the master also including a chest of drawers. Up on the mezzanine floor, the double bedroom is furnished with bedside tables and lamps, a mirror and a chest of drawers.

Two bathrooms serve the lodge. The main family bathroom, on the mezzanine floor, has a bath, WC, washbasin, mirror and shaver point. The second, on the ground floor, has a walk-in shower cubicle, washbasin, mirror and shaver point.

Outside, a decked area with a patio table and chairs makes the most of the setting, alongside a hot tub and barbecue for evenings that don’t need to end early. A private driveway offers parking for two cars.

Onsite features and the surrounding area

Black Hall Farm is a family run organic farming business set across 550 acres of genuinely beautiful rural landscape, with a quiet valley close by that guests come back for again and again. Staying at Superior Lodge means access to a strong set of communal facilities too: an indoor swimming pool, steam room, sauna, and a games room with both a table tennis table and a full-size snooker table.

The lodge suits families particularly well, with plenty for children of all ages, including a communal play area for younger guests.

Offa’s Dyke National Trail runs close to the farm, taking walkers through a genuinely varied stretch of landscape and a good amount of native wildlife along the way. Beyond the farm itself, the surrounding area has plenty to fill a week: Buildwas Abbey, Wenlock Priory, West Midland Safari Park, Cadbury World, Hereford Cathedral, Quackers Play Barn and Shipton Hall are all within easy reach.
